Starting (Video #1)- 1959 John Deere 435 w/Detroit GM 2-53 DIESEL FOR SALE $7000 3/10

Runs, starts good, 1959 435D Tractor with Serial # 435217. Rear tires not matched and one has a slow leak but are 80% or so, fronts have some normal weather checking and 6-70%. Sheet metal is all pretty straight. Original hour meter at 3670 but not turning it seems. Temp. gauge isn’t working but amp and oil pressure are and oil pressure is real good for a 2 Cylinder at 25 lbs. where it should be. Tales From The Ford Super Duty Tailpipe Fires

37,000 units of the 2008 model year Ford Super Duty F-Series pickup trucks are going to be recalled. And this is according to a press release sent out by the Ford Motor Company last Wednesday. The reason for the recall was that there have been reports of these pickups experiencing fires in their tailpipes.

As on the end of the company, a spokesperson did also mention that they really did receive reports about these. However, they only received three. Upon further inspection, the company has found out that the tailpipe fires have started because of leaking fuel or oil had started the fire upon being trapped in the diesel particulate filter found near the tailpipe of the vehicles.

Also, the spokesperson from the company did further mention that they had they had looked into one particular case wherein the tailpipe fire also became the cause for another fire – this time, the blaze was set on grass. This happened when the driver pulled off the road and the fire crept to the nearby grass.

Dan Jarvis, the spokesperson of the company, did say though that despite hearing reports like this, they are also quite happy to note that there were no injuries or accidents of any sort that has happened as a result of the tailpipe fires from the Ford Super Duty F-Series pickups.

Jarvis did continue to say, “This is an important product for us and an important customer base, and we want to move swiftly to make sure this does not become a safety issue for our customers.”

As part of the move of the company to straighten out this fiery mess, the company has already sent word to their official dealers last Wednesday to immediately put a stop to selling the vehicles. The vehicles would be back on the stands and would be for sale as soon as the problem is rectified. But owners of the vehicles should need not worry for the repair and the work to be done on the vehicles would not take long. In fact, the company is estimating that it should only about 10 minutes for the repair.

This particular situation just goes to show that a simple thing like a tailpipe could still be cause for recall. So, as car owners, we should always be on the lookout for anything wrong with the vehicle, especially if it is still fairly new. Who knows? Perhaps those Nissan multi rib belt that you just purchased have defects that would entail a recall.

The Not So Grand 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Like every other manufacturer selling sport utility vehicles these days, parent Chrysler LLC has seen a huge drop off in Jeep Grand Cherokee sales to the tune of a 48% decrease for July 2008 over the same period in 2007. This unprecedented drop has hit Chrysler the most as the company has long been dependent on trucks and SUVs for the overwhelming majority of their sales.

Despite the bad news, Chrysler has big plans for the Grand Cherokee when the 2011 model is released in 2010. According to company reports, Chrysler will invest $1.8 billion retooling its Jefferson North Assembly Plant (Detroit) to build the next generation Grand Cherokee as well as several new models. The side benefit of this investment is that Chrysler expects that the beleaguered Motor City plant will need 400 new workers.

Though Chrysler hasn’t shared all of the news yet regarding the proposed Grand Cherokee, they have said the following:

The Grand Cherokee will ride on a car-based platform instead of on a truck platform, much in the way that today’s crossover vehicles are built.
Lighter materials a slightly smaller body will mean that the model will see noticeable improvements over its current 15/19 mpg numbers. A V6 engine will power the new Grand Cherokee.
The Grand Cherokee will still be 4×4 capable, but expect that this will mean light duty off-roading at best.

The Not So Grand Cherokee

Chrysler says that the Grand Cherokee name will be retained for the new model, though purists may argue that what is being served up is something far less grand. Chrysler, like every other car manufacturer, is dealing with the permanency of high fuel costs and what the consumer wants will ultimately dictate what each car company must build.

Would you believe it? Those guys that developed the chemistry sets to create bio diesel, made from deep fryer oil to replace diesel fuel, have now done it for gasoline engine vehicles. They are creating easy to build kits that generate Hydrogen from water to reduce gasoline requirements by 50% or more. At current prices, that equates to less than $2.00 per gallon used. That means that my Honda can get up to 70 miles per gallon of gas. And, I can nearly double the mileage on my motor home. You won’t have to feel guilty about enjoying your favorite past time any longer.

The incredible part of it is no major changes have to be made to the engine to make it work. Nearly anyone can do it. And, the engine runs cooler and cleaner. I see nothing in the process that can damage an engine. If you should decide not to use it for a while, can’t imagine why, you can simply shut it off.

I have a Degree in Internal Combustion Engines Technology. I know that most gimmicks that claim to make your car get incredible mileage are hype. The simple fact is that gasoline will only burn within a narrow range ratio ( 9:1 to 16:1 fuel air ratio). Too rich, or too lean, the engine will no longer perform efficiently. But, what these geniuses have done is mix two technologies. Hydrogen powered cars have been in development for some time. In fact, Honda is releasing one with a fuel cell in 4 years. The only drawback to broad commercial use has been safe storage of Hydrogen in the event of an accident, and fueling stations. This system generates the Hydrogen as it is being consumed. No Hydrogen storage is required. I have researched many sites, and have discovered that many have tried this and are very satisfied. Very few take advantage of the money back guarantee.

Water contains Hydrogen and Oxygen, as I am sure you are aware. Hydrogen is highly flammable; Oxygen is not, unless it attaches properly to something else. Otherwise water would be flammable. Well what is a good mechanic worth these days? You cannot place a value on them simply as labor units as they teach in management school, they are worth more than money. So why not treat them with respect and dignity and pay them what they are worth, we believe that the national averages are too low. There is a partial report on the Automotive and Trucking Sector from the Fed’s Beige Book, June 2002.

I do not concur with all these numbers, but this is an average and a good indication of some since of reality. Certainly the numbers are incorrect for North Eastern US, Houston, Dallas, Denver, LA, PHX, Seattle, Atlanta, Detroit, and Minneapolis. The report states that Government Mechanics for Diesel Engines average wage is $17.93 per hour, auto $16.90. For parts companies where knowledge is key since parts are parts is $15.48 diesel, $16.87 auto. Repair Stations Diesel $14.74, auto repair shops $12.35. Trucking and Delivery $14.50 diesel, auto $12.15.

School Districts averages $14.60, auto $11.80, great? Our most precious commodity and the future of this nation, our kids? The low end of the mechanic scale is schools? Ouch.

Well the Oil Change Quick Lube is even less. Labor to start at Jiffy Lube is $6.75 in some locations. We can guarantee you if you want to reduce turnover at your Oil Change Facility, you will have to pay more than that. Some oil change companies claim a 60% turnover per year, which is only a tad better than a fast food restaurant.

Even at ten dollars per hour in suburban areas, you are barely getting by for the quality help your customers deserve.
